WRAD, Inc. welcomes you to Leisure Hiking Day at Devil's Punchbowl from 10 am to 3 pm at Devil's Punchbowl, 28000 Devil's Punchbowl Rd., Pearblossom, CA. WRAD presents a popular hiking place at Devil's Punchbowl in Pearblossom near Palmdale, California on Saturday May 9th, 2009 (new date) as we meet at 10am then go hiking on Loop's Trail around the Punchbowl. About 2-3 hours total. A one mile "Loop Trail" is long and quite strenuous with a 300 foot elevation drop into the canyon and back to the top above the picnic area and parking lot. It is a very beautiful place to hike with breathtaking view of the canyons and the desert. Go to www.devils-punchbowl.com to see the pictures of the area. Bring hiking shoes and something to eat for lunch at the picnic area or near the creek along the trail. It is a Natural Area and is well preserved. Stay on trails and bring alot of water! FREE ADMISSION and FREE PARKING. The park closes at 4pm. Everyone is welcome including friends and families of the deaf and hard of hearing. Go to the website to get directions to Devil's Punchbowl from your home. BRING YOUR CAMERA!!!!!!! More about Devil's Punchbowl--- The most conspicuous features of the park are geological. The Punchbowl is a deep canyon cut by the runoff of large quantities of water from the higher San Gabriel Mountains occurring over a long period of time. These mountain peaks above the park are 8,000 feet in elevation while the Nature Center is located at 4,740 feet above sea level. The Punchbowl Canyon is 300 feet deep at the vista point. The peculiar uptilted rock formations to be seen in the entire area are layers of sedimentary rocks that were formed long ago by the depositing of loose material in horizontal layers by water. Later they were squeezed into their present steeply-tilted form by the continuing action of uplift along the Punchbowl and Pinyon Faults and pressures along the San Andreas Fault. The Punchbowl Fault is to the south of the rock formation while the Pinyon and San Andreas Faults are to the north. Bruce Gross, Tour Guide. For more information, contact wradceo@aol.com. Norris Center for the Performing Arts presents "NOBODY'S PERFECT" at 7:30 pm at Norris Theatre, 27570 Crossfield Drive, Rolling Hills Estates, CA. NOBODY'S PERFECT, written by Doug Cooney, music by Deborah Wicks La Puma, based on the book by Marlee Matlin and Doug Cooney. Performed in English and American Sign Language, Directed by Coy Middlebrook of Deaf West. Two girls look beyond the surface in a new musical based on a book by Oscar winner Marlee Matlin! Fourth grade is not easy and after spending a year planning her "positively purple" birthday party, Megan finds herself at odds with new student Alexis. To Megan, Alexis has it all: beauty, brains, and athletics-- she's practically perfect in every way. Though Megan tries to be nice to her, Alexis is anything but friendly, making Megan wonder, "Does she not like me because I'm deaf?" When they're forced to collaborate on a science project, Megan discovers Alexis's secret. Based on the children's book by Academy Award winner Marlee Matlin (Best Actress, Children of a Lesser God) and Doug Cooney, this exciting new musical--performed simultaneously in spoken English and American Sign Language--is an important reminder that despite first impressions, nobody's perfect.
