November 12, 2009.  CSUN Deaf Studies and CSUN Jishin Taiko sponsors Deaf American and Deaf Japanese Friendship Project welcomes you to Deaf American and Deaf Japanese Friendship Project Presents Taiko: Feel the Power Through Vibration from 4 pm to 6 pm at CSUN, 18111 Nordhoff Street, Northridge, CA 91330.  Deaf Japanese woman artist brings her barrel-shaped instruments to California State University Northridge! Taiko, the Japanese drum, is as old as the country of Japan itself and is considered an important aspect of education, culture and tradition. It still succeeds in stirring the spirit of both the drummers and their audience while breaking stereotypes about deaf and hard of hearing people.  It will be held at the JOHNSON AUDITORIUM. SEATING IS LIMITED so please come early or on time.  ADMISSION IS FREE. Open to all ages and to both hearing and deaf audiences.   There will be a booth outside selling Japanese snacks, and other Japanese related products. Please support us by stopping by. Donations are welcome.  As for the Deaf American and Deaf Japanese Friendship Project, we are a team of students fundraising to go to Deaf Pilialoha, the first of its kind Deaf Japanese-American Friendship Conference in Honolulu, Hawaii from December 14th-19th 2009.  Deaf American and Deaf Japanese Friendship Project promotes: -Understanding both countries' cultures and sign languages for the deaf and hard of hearing community. -Promoting a sense of unity among American/Japanese Deaf people and the community through cultural sharing and educational presentations on Deaf history, culture, language, and heritage.  -Building awareness of deaf and hard of hearing communities in Japan and the United States.
